As India Advisor, Shashaank brings to the team more than 24 years of experience in banking and finance, and works on pipeline development, pre-investment support including due diligence and post investment support to investee companies. Shashaank sits on the board of two impact businesses, and is a member of the Board of Advisors at The British School in Chennai. Shashaank is also a social entrepreneur and co- founder of v-shesh, an early-stage social enterprise that facilitates access to jobs and other opportunities for low-income individuals in non-metropolitan and rural areas in India. He has a keen personal interest in double bottom-line enterprises, microfinance, financial inclusion, and businesses that generate social returns.

Prior to working in the social enterprise sector, Shashaank was a Commercial Banker responsible for building ABN AMRO Bank’s regional franchise in India, before leading the largest part of ABN AMRO’s Commercial Banking business in India. Shashaank previously worked with IDBI Bank Limited (formerly known as Industrial Development Bank of India) and Tata Group, as well as interned with Bank of America while completing his MBA.

Shashaank received his Master of Business Administration in Finance from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies as well as a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Rajasthan. Shashaank has been at Gray Ghost for the last seven years.

Brian brings experience in both the for- profit and not-for-profit sectors in developed and developing countries. He has been involved with sourcing, underwriting, monitoring and managing direct investments in innovative early-stage ventures since joining GGV in 2005. He was instrumental in establishing the Impact Ventures team, as well as building the initial GMC social investment portfolio.

Previously, he served as an early employee of Benevolink, where he was involved in a variety of aspects of product, technology, and business development. Brian has also held positions at CARE International, where he was Deputy Director for the southern Balkans offices, and KPMG, here he served as a Consultant in the business valuations practice. Brian began his career as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Turkmenistan, Central Asia.

Brian is a Kauffman Fellow and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Georgia Honors Program, where he earned a BA summa cum laude. Brian also holds an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University and is proficient in Russian.

Arun comes to social venture capital after executive leadership roles in finance and operations in the telecommunications industry. Arun brings his general management experience to lead the management of the organization, investment team and Fund investment activities. Over the last seven years, he has been involved in developing the Impact Ventures portfolios under management and promoting financial and social value creation.

Prior to his current role, Arun founded a management and operations consulting practice focused on international operations and support to the wireless industry. Previously, he was a member of the executive team with T-Mobile USA, serving as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Cook Inlet T-Mobile. As CFO, he spearheaded mergers and acquisitions and the development of business strategies that included managing joint ventures for T- Mobile, establishing Indian operations for US-based firms and promoting start-ups. During his career, he has been responsible for managing market operations, budgeting, vendor financing and special projects, as well as streamlining operations and restructuring departments and business centers to improve financial and operational efficiency.

Arun is a native of Chennai, India. He holds a BSc in the Sciences and a BS in Accounting. Arun also holds an MBA in Finance and is proficient in Tamil, Hindi, Marathi and Telugu.

Prior to joining Gray Ghost, Bahniman worked at Viscogliosi Brothers LLC, a New York based Private Equity firm and held positions with Navigation Capital Partners (NCP), Atlanta and Ernst & Young (E&Y), in New Delhi, India. As an Investment Manager at NCP, he worked on M&A transactions and completed technology related investments. During his tenure at E&Y India, he worked as an Associate Consultant in the Business & Risk Advisory Practice, advising companies in the Indian subcontinent on issues related to performance improvement, restructuring and enterprise-wide risk management.

Bahniman is a native of Guwahati, India, and is fluent in Hindi and Assamese, with basic proficiency in Bengali and Punjabi. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Shriram College of Commerce (University of Delhi) and a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) designation from the Institute of Internal Auditors, Florida. He earned his MBA with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from Emory University in, Atlanta.

As India Advisor, Raja brings over 20 years of experience in development banking and finance, with specific expertise in water and sanitation, employment and disability inclusion. He works alongside Shashaank on pipeline development and pre- and post- investment support to investee companies. Raja co-founded v-shesh with Shashaank. He has prior experience as a business and development sector practitioner, with over 14 years of experience incubating, leading and managing a diverse range of investments and research assignments in the public, private and NGO sectors. Raja has also held a variety of knowledge leadership roles, including the financial structuring of a greenfield automobile project, promotion of governance reforms in the public utilities sector and building a strategic framework for institutional reforms.

Prior to founding v-shesh, Raja was a Senior Development Expert at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). He also worked as a wholesale lender with IDBI Bank Limited (formerly known as Industrial Development Bank of India Limited).

Raja received his Master of Business Administration from NMIMS, a Master of Science in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and an Engineering Degree from VJTI in Mumbai. He has been at Gray Ghost for the last six years.
